LEBANON – Tailback Ja'Sean Parks ran for 119 yards and scored three touchdowns to lift undefeated Beech to a 40-21 victory over Class 6A Lebanon (3-3) Friday at Clifton Tribble Field / Danny Watkins Stadium.
The wild contest found the two teams combining for 41 points in the second quarter as the Buccaneers improved to 6-0 on the season headed into Friday, Oct. 4 home game versus Hillsboro.
Safety B.J. Colon helped seal the deal by blocking a Blue Devil punt early in the third period that allowed Jason Parson to score from 17 yards out giving the Buccaneers a two-score lead at 34-21.
Earlier in the game, Colon picked off a pass that was nullified by a roughing the passer penalty.
Down 7-0 after Lebanon's DeQuantay Shannon scored from 26 yards out, Beech responded with 21 unanswered points on drives of 68 and 50 yards before outside linebacker Ashton Talbot jumped a throwback screen and intercepted a pass intended for the Lebanon tight end.
The pick set the Bucs up in business at the Lebanon 23.
One play later Xavier Jones rolled out and found sophomore tight end behind the Lebanon defense for a touchdown, pushing the margin to 21-7 with 5:15 left in the half.
The Blue Devils got a quick score from Shannon as the junior popped a 75-yard scamper to trim the Beech lead to just 21-14 at the 4:55 mark.
The Buccaneers needed only three plays to answer, driving the ball 82 yards on just three snaps.
Speedy junior Tysean Jefferson swept left end and appeared trapped along the boundary – only to escape and sprint 76 yards to pay dirt – pushing the lead to 27-14 with 3:12 remaining before intermission.
Kicker Cory Edwards was short on a long PAT try after Jefferson was penalized 15 yards for taunting Lebanon defenders on the way to the end zone.
LHS proceeded to march 79 yards on 10 plays as quarterback Eli Clemmons found Dalton Woods open on a short post route for a touchdown, sending Lebanon to the locker room down just 27-21.
Lebanon's offense stalled out in the third period, and Colon swooped in to block a Blue Devil punt, allowing Pearson to scoop and score for a 34-21 Beech lead.
Later in the third, Lebanon's Shannon fumbled going into the end zone, giving the Bucs the ball at the LHS 20.
Two plays later Parks burst off left tackle and scampered 74 yards for the touchdown, leaving three Lebanon defenders in his wake.
Parks led Beech with 119 yards on 15 carries and scored touchdowns on runs of 1, 7 and 74 yards.
Johnson added 53 yards on 10 carries and Jefferson turned in 98 yards and a touchdown on just seven attempts.
Jones was 4-of-4 passing in the first half for 84 yards and touchdown. He went 0-for-2 in the second half and finished 4-of-8 with no interceptions.
Lebanon's Shannon was brilliant in the loss, rushing for a season high 245 yards on 21 carries (11.6 per) and TD runs of 26 and 75 yards.
