Parachute Musical releases new album and plays Gilligan’s

Nashville-based rock group Parachute Musical have big plans for the fall. As the season is one that represents change, it couldn’t be more fitting to have a new album that applies the same concept and a show at Gilligan’s in Murfreesboro on Oct. 7.Composed of members Josh Foster, Ben Jacoby, Tom Gilbert and Andrew Samples, the group has an MTSU connection that dates back to the early 2000s through members Gilbert and Samples, who joined forces during college. Parachute Musical is set for a new sound and direction on its latest album, Kill It Cut It Down, which steers away from their piano-driven tag of the past. The group’s meeting point on the new album is one that is simple – an out-with-the-old-and-in-with-the-new model. “With growth, comes the positive,” vocalist and piano man Josh Foster said in reference to the album’s theme. “It’s filled with high-energy rock n’ roll.”Tracks like “Reflection” and “Back To The Bottom” solidify giving up old ways, as they showcase a lament in sobriety from the writer with a fine-tuned sound that resonates throughout the album. “This album has an indie vibe with pop sensibility,” Foster noted. “It has smooth vibes.” The group is known to care about every aspect of the music process that stretches far beyond the songs and extends into the live show and fan base. In line with the album, gone away are the vibrant color schemes that were associated with the group in the past.”We wanted to shed ourselves, but not our personalities,” Foster said. “We are now using a white theme which represents more of a clean slate.”On the same note, the group still has much admiration for its fan base and shows at Gilligan’s are much appreciated because it has played the venue in the past under different names. “The shows there are great,” Foster said. “We have a fun and responsive crowd. We want to continue the fan-band relationship for a long time. If there are fans in the area, they should come out to see how we’ve grown.”Gilligan’s is located at 527 West Main St. in Murfreesboro, and the show begins at 9 p.m., with Kyle Andrews and Taxicab Racers also on the bill.
