Marie Frances Johnson Smith, 94, of Gallatin, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2020.

A Celebration of Life will be planned at a future date to be announced.

Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 14, 1925 in the Graball Area to the late Marshall Johnson and Ruby Glover Johnson.   In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Smith; brothers, Marshall Freeland Johnson, Jr, George Johnson, and Calvin Johnson; and sister, Betty Johnson.

She is survived by son, James Rippy (Patricia) of Gallatin; daughter, Tammy DeMeio of Gallatin; grandchildren, Scarlett Anne Rippy of Charlotte, NC and Kyle Egidio DeMeio of Gallatin.

Mrs. Smith graduated from Portland High School at the age of 15.  She played on the lady’s High School Basketball Team. During WWII, she traveled the United States helping the war effort in any way she could.  Officer Smith served the Gallatin Community for 42 years with the Gallatin Police Department, she retired in 2014. She has worked every school zone in Gallatin directing traffic during her career.  Mrs. Smith was a long-time member of the Gallatin First United Methodist Church and was an avid Green Wave Football fan (working most of the games) and a Station Camp Hockey fan. She was also an extensive traveler who loved life.

She will be greatly missed by the many family and friends who will be comforted in remembering her kind, independent spirit and the matchless legacy she leaves behind.
