Jesse C. “Tad” Cantrell

Jesse C. “Tad” Cantrell, age 96 of Gallatin, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021, with his two children by his side.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Funeral Service will be Thursday, April 15 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Family Heritage Funeral Home, with Dr. Travis Fleming officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 14th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, April 15th from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Crestview Memory Gardens, with Steve Vantrease, Tony Bartolomeo, Tommy Cantrell, Michael Tuttle, Dan Driver, and Dennis Tuttle serving as pallbearers.

Mr. Cantrell was born August 19, 1924 in Sumner County to the late John Winchester Cantrell and Mary Evaline Cage Cantrell. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by wife of 67 years, Mary Ruth Cantrell; brothers, John Cantrell, Charlie Cantrell, Willie Cantrell, Jimmy Cantrell, and George Cantrell; and sisters, Alice “Missy” Norwood, Mary Jane Coley, and Mona Salter. He is survived by daughter, Mary Anna Swartwout (Greg) of Lebanon; son, George Stephen Cantrell of Gallatin; 2 grandchildren, Beth Bartolomeo (Tony) and Derrick Cantrell (Mandy); great grandchildren, Madelyn Cantrell, Bella Mitchell, Carter Mitchell, and soon-to-come, Wyatt Cage Bartolomeo.

Mr. Cantrell served our country in the United States Army in World War II. He was in the Field Artillery as Motor Pool Sergeant (T4). Mr. Cantrell was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Gallatin. He retired in 1985 from Eaton Corporation after 32 years of service. He could always be found outdoors farming or sitting on the front porch, enjoying the sunshine.
