Bernice Marie McNeese Hiland




Bernice Marie McNeese Hiland, two days shy of her 80th birthday, passed away on August 9, 2020, at her home in Portland, TN surrounded by family, after a fierce battle with cancer.

 

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Paul Hammonds Hiland of Woodbine Community; father, John Allen McNeese, mother, Audra Bernice Hodge McNeese both of Normandy, TN; siblings, David McNeese of Normandy, TN, Curtis McNeese of Hillsboro, TN, Evelyn Hittson, all of Normandy, TN and granddaughter, Christy Hiland of Lafayette, TN.  

 

Bernice is survived by her children, Michael Hiland, Larry Hiland, both of Graball, TN, Linda Aguiar of Portland, TN, and Eddie Hiland of Hendersonville; siblings, Ida (James) Gordon of Wartrace, and Michael (Brenda) McNeese of Tullahoma.

 

Grandchildren include Michael (Samantha) Hiland, Jr of Lafayette, TN, Larry Hiland, Jr. of Graball, TN, Skylar Hiland of Cookeville, Courtney Hiland of Cookeville, Dillon Hiland of Graball, Chance (Christina) Gregory of Duluth, GA, Ryan Gregory of Mt. Juliet, Jessalyn (Aaron) Maddux of Portland, Devin Aguiar of Portland, TN, Brody Hiland and Alaina Hiland of Hendersonville, TN; eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom loved and adored her.  

 

Bernice graduated Tullahoma High School, class 1959, she went on to get her Associates Degree at Falls Business College of Nashville.  Bernice spent most of her life in Graball, TN, where she owned and operated the local General Store with her husband Paul and was currently retired living her best times with her family.

 

Bernice was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ in Graball.  Her favorite thing was spending time with her grandchildren, whether she was playing Xbox or battling the Ocoee River.  She was always ready to travel and went on many trips and adventures.  

 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Family Heritage Funeral Home, 100 Albert Gallatin Avenue, Gallatin, TN.
