United Way launches Unite Sumner Tour

Beginning this month, United Way of Sumner County will launch a new initiative – the Unite Sumner Tour – that will help citizens create positive change during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Unite Sumner Tour invites everyone to take a tour with United Way of Sumner County, virtually or in person, through the amazing work being done by its network of agencies. It will offer opportunities to join United Way’s enthusiastic supporters, volunteers and donors who make incredible things happen with their generosity.

Best of all, everyone can get involved at a level that fits their life and meets their desire to give back to the community.

It does not have to be all or nothing – United Way of Sumner County has a variety of ways you can give, advocate and volunteer.

Join the tour and see where your talents, voice, money or time can help families or senior citizens who struggle to buy food, pay rent and utilities, find childcare, pay for their prescription medications and meet other basic needs.

“I believe there are many people who want to help others during this pandemic, but they are not sure how to do that. The Unite Sumner Tour will help them understand the needs in the community and give them concrete ways to help people who are hurting,” said Steve Doremus, executive director of United Way of Sumner County. “People may say, ‘I don’t really have the time,’ but honestly, they can join the tour virtually from the comfort of their own home or come out and get involved in person.

“This tour really gives everyone information and then gives them a menu of options on how to help. It lets them decide what they want to do and how they want to do it.”

The tour will answer questions about the work being done and the best way to lend a hand – whether it be within a small circle of friends and co-workers or beyond into a larger communitywide initiative. On social media pages or at church or businesses or during social gatherings.

United Way of Sumner County has several local residents who have volunteered to serve as Change Ambassadors. During the tour, the ambassadors will fan out across Sumner County to share information about how united residents can create positive change for their neighbors.

They are familiar faces and longtime friends of United Way of Sumner County who know firsthand what it means to make a difference.

“Our belief is we all have to band together to fight the negatives that threaten our community and our well-being,” said Erin Birch, chief development officer for United Way of Sumner County.

United Way of Sumner County needs your help. The community needs your help.
