Members of the General Jethro Sumner Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters American Revolution (DAR) have been busy providing masks and other personal protective equipment for residents, healthcare workers, and other workers on the frontlines of fighting the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Members are joining DAR members from all 50 states by participating in the National Society’s Service to America Campaign.  Members realize that there is a great need for these masks; and as of April 28, DAR members have sewn 222,856 masks and made 9,372 other PPE items for those in need, with more being made daily.

Local chapter members have made several thousand masks that have been donated to local hospitals, nursing homes, police departments, firefighters, and Ft. Campbell.

DAR President General Denise VanBuren stated, “I am exceptionally proud of what DAR members are accomplishing as part of a proud tradition of service that dates to our 1890 founding.  In difficult times like these, it is not the emergency that defines us, but how we respond to it.”

Fabric face masks made by DAR volunteers are not medical grade and are not guaranteed to treat or prevent disease. They are created in furtherance of CDC recommendations that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings where social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
