State Sen. Ferrell Haile (R-Gallatin) has been reappointed Speaker Pro Tempore of the Tennessee Senate.
“Ferrell Haile is a dedicated legislator with a servant’s heart. He has excelled in the role of Speaker Pro Tempore,” said Lt. Governor McNally. “I was proud to reappoint him.”
The Speaker Pro Tempore is a key leadership position in the General Assembly, in terms of both operations and policy. Most notably, the Speaker Pro Tempore presides over the state Senate in the absence of the Speaker.
Haile was also appointed to the Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee, Senate Health and Welfare Committee, Senate Education Committee and Senate Rules Committee. The Finance Committee holds the purse strings for all of state government with responsibility for hearing all measures dealing with the appropriation of state funds. It also has oversight over legislation pertaining to state bonds, pensions, investments or indebtedness. The Health and Welfare Committee considers legislation that governs healthcare facilities, licensed health professionals, TennCare, and all aspects of public welfare. The Senate Education Committee reviews all legislation regarding K-12 schools and higher education
In addition, Haile leads the Senate Republican Caucus’ “Bill Review” sessions. In Bill Review, Caucus members are provided information about pending legislation on the floor of the Senate when scheduled for a vote.
