Despite the threat of rain during the day, Music on Main was held Saturday, Aug. 29 with The Ultimate Garth Brooks Tribute featuring Shawn Gerhard. The event was sponsored by The Portland Chamber of Commerce and the City of Portland.

Mayor Mike Callis said, “(We are) thankful for the chamber’s leadership and organization for events in our community.”

The summer series of concerts are usually held under the lights on Main Street however, this one was moved to the city parking lot behind Strawberry Station to provide for social distancing.

An estimated crowd of 400 enjoyed the performance. There were attendees from as far away as Texas, Clarksville, and Tomkinsville, Ky.

Early in his career Gerhard was influenced by Garth Brooks. According to his website, he has performed opening spots for Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Tim McGraw, and many others. He has performed from coast to coast during his career.

“I was pleased with our turnout at the Music on Main event. Everyone was honoring our social distancing request and seemed to be excited to be out,” President/CEO of Portland Chamber of Commerce Sherri Ferguson said.
