Portland Community Education Foundation held its annual fundraiser, “The Event” recently at the Southern Occasions Event Center, raising $15,000 for student scholarships and teacher grants. Over 100 people from the community attended the event.

Since the foundation’s beginning in 2006, it has awarded over $40,000 to area Portland teachers and has awarded over $189,000 in scholarships to area residents.

Portland High School junior and senior classes served the meal to the guests. Foundation Chairman Rep. William Lamberth was the emcee and was assisted by Chad Wilson.

Sherri Ferguson, president and CEO of the Portland Chamber of Commerce and Events Coordinator Kristen Daughtry assisted with the drawings for the door prizes.

Lamberth said, “For well over a decade our community has pooled our resources through the Portland Community Education Foundation to support our children as they pursue higher education and our teachers as they work hard to prepare the next generation of leaders in Portland. We are so thankful that our friends and neighbors assembled again this year to support this noble effort.”

Platinum Sponsors for the event were Jeff and Robyn Collins, Joanie Neal, Acopia Home Loans, and Rep. William Lamberth. Dinner Sponsors were Kyowa America Corporation and North American Stamping Group. Donation Sponsors were Unipres USA, Jim and Kathy Butler, and Southern Occasions Event Center.
