Hands of Hope is planning a Valentines Fundraiser for Feb. 12. The event will be held at McKendree United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall and will be open to 30 couples or 60 people.
The cost of the event is $100 per couple and tickets may be purchased at Hands of Hope located at 101B South Russell Street. Makayla McDowell will provide the musical entertainment.
According to founder Karen Stewart Cole, it is an opportunity for Hands of Hope getting its name out there because, “some people don’t know we are here.”
“We want to provide a beautiful event for the community and send love to the community. We want to continue seeing that no one goes hungry,” Cole said.
Hands of Hope volunteers will be the servers at the meal. Mike and April Sherbeyn will cater the Italian three-course meal featuring several dishes. Desserts will be provided by L and N Bakery and Bakery Box.
Businesses in the community and individuals have donated many items for a silent auction. These items will add to the funds raised to help feed the hungry in Portland.
The Center for Disease Control guidelines will be in effect due to the pandemic. All attendees are required to wear masks and seating will provide appropriate spacing.
Hands of Hope main goal is to help those in the Portland area who are struggling with food poverty. During the Christmas season, over 300 children were given gifts through their Angel Tree located at the pantry. In addition, over 400 food boxes were distributed during a two-week period during the Christmas season.
Cole said, “We want to provide a time where everyone can be happy. Times are horrible. We want everybody to forget that for a night.”
