Sumner County 4-H’ers competed in the Middle Tennessee Outdoor Meat Cookery Competition Aug. 15 at the Wilson County Expo Center in Lebanon.

Participants prepare and cook either beef, pork, poultry or lamb over a charcoal fire. They are judged on food and fire safety practices as well as the taste of the food they prepare.

The Sumner County junior high team placed 3rd overall.  

Individually, MaKayla Williams of Gallatin placed second in the chicken category; Abigail Barnett of Gallatin placed 7th in beef; Deanna Speicher of Gallatin placed 8th in lamb. In the senior high division Austin Parker of Gallatin placed 10th in chicken.
