Friday, September 13th, 20th and 27th        Lucky Library Bingo

1:00 to 2:00    Please join us at the Portland Public Library to play Bingo.  We will begin playing at 1:00 in the community room.  No cash prizes, but we give away food, books, gift cards and more!  

Tuesday, September 10th   Crafternoon!

1:00 to 4:00    Please join us on the second and fourth Tuesday, between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00 for Crafternoon!  You may bring your craft projects to the library to work on with other crafters.  This could be anything from crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, quilting, painting, making cards, scrapbooking, coloring or others. 

You must bring your own sewing machine, if applicable, and supplies. If you are currently working on a project, please bring it with you to work on.  This is a great opportunity for like-minded crafters to get together and learn from each other.  On occasion, we will have a crafter come in to teach something new if you would like to learn. Contact the library at 615-325-2279 or stop by the front desk for any questions.

Wednesday, September 11th    Classic Movie Time

12:30 to 2:30   Please join us in the community room at the library for afternoon tea and a movie.  We will be watching August Rush.  This event is free and open to everyone.    

Wednesday, September 18th        Line Dancing Class

1:00 to 2:30   Would you like to learn to line dance?  If so, join us at the Portland Public Library on Wednesday, September 18th from 1:00 to 2:30 and Patty Gribovicz will instruct you on such dances as the Electric Slide, Boot Scootin’ Boogie and Cotton Eye Joe to name a few.  Patty has been dancing since she was a small child.  She was an instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio for three years.  Using her simple, written instructions, along with her demonstration, you should become versed in the art of line dancing. This is a free event!

 

Thursday, September 19h  Book Club

11:30 to 1:00   Please join us if you love to read. We will be reading “A Stranger in Mayfair” by Charles Finch.  Please call the library today to reserve your copy at 615-325-2279. 

 

Saturday, September 21st   Tea Time at the Library

11:00 to 1:00   This is a social event, as the taking and offering of tea signifies friendship and a chance to visit with old friends and make new ones.  This program requires no invitation or reservation.  Simply bring a batch of your favorite sweet or savory to share and “drop in” for tea.  We will take care of everything else.

Wednesday, September 25th    Classic Movie Time

Friday, September 27th    Fine Free Friday

Overdue Library Materials?  Relax!  The last Friday of every month has been declared FINE FREE FRIDAY at the Portland Library.  Fines will not be charged for any overdue library materials returned on the last Friday of the month.

 

 

 

 

TEEN ACTIVITIES

Teens in 6th through 12th grade are welcome to attend programs from 4:00 - 5:00 in the community room. All events are free of charge.  If you have any questions, call Megan at 615-325-2279.

 

Tuesday, September 10th    Games in the Teen Space

3:30 to 5:00    The Nintendo Switch will be set up in the Teen Space and will be available for teens in 6th through 12th grade from 3:30 to 5:00.

Thursday, September 12th   Group Games

4:00 to 5:00   Work together as a team to safely walk through a minefield and play a game of charades featuring your favorite internet GIFs. 

Thursday, September 19th   Natural Disasters

4:00 to 5:00    September is National Preparedness Month.  Learn about natural disasters that can affect Tennessee and participate in a building challenge to create a structure that can withstand an earthquake.  There will also be a raffle for a safety tool.

Thursday, September 26th  The Cat Game

4:00 to 5:00   Go fur it with The Cat Game, a hair-raising drawing game (with cats.)  Pick a card from a CATegory, draw the clue and see if players can guess the answer!

Wednesday, September 18th   Constellation stories.  Music, movement and then make up your own constellation.

Wednesday, September 25th   A star story from Peru, and llamas on the loose.  Music, movement, and coloring.

School-Aged Children’s Activities   Meets on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

 

Wednesday, September 11th   Stars!  Some facts, some fun.  Ice breakers to begin with, a story and games.

 

Wednesday, September 18th   Constellations and their stories – Make a constellation viewer, plus regular fun and games.

Wednesday, September 25th   Share a star-constellation story from Peru – plus facts and interesting places in Peru.  Followed by either a game or art project from Peru. 

 

Lapsit  (ages infants and toddlers)    Meets on Friday at 10:30 a.m.

These programs consist of stories, songs, rhymes, finger plays and a sticker page.

 

Friday, September 13th   Turtle Stories!  Plus turtle songs, turtle rhymes, and our regular songs and sticker page.

Friday, September 20th     Fall/Autumn books, stories, songs, and rhymes  We will also have stickers at the end.  

Friday, September 27th  Mary had a little lamb and other lamb/sheep stories, songs, rhymes and stickers.
