Sumner County Trustee Marty Nelson has announced that she will not seek re-election and will retire following this term which expires Aug. 31, 2018.
Nelson said, "My love for the citizens of my home county runs deep and I have loved serving these past 12 years. But now seems the right time for a change."
She went on to share her plans to move to Wyoming upon her retirement, citing her health as the reason. Nelson, who has severe rheumatoid arthritis, found that the lower humidity in that region greatly relieves her discomfort.
Nelson also stated that Chief Deputy of the Trustee's Office, Cindy Williams plans to run for the Trustee position.
"Cindy has faithfully served our citizens for many years and really provides stability and high efficiency to our office. Her election would provide stable continuity to the office. She will make a tremendous trustee and has my full support," Nelson stated.
Nelson went on to express her deep appreciation to the citizens of Sumner County for electing her these past three terms.
She said, "I look forward to the coming tax season and seeing many familiar faces as this chapter of my life draws to a conclusion."
