Every summer for the past decade, former Portland Panther great Corey Brewer has given his time to a community and school he once called home.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in between summer camps, as the school unveiled its new look basketball court. The prideful color purple was restored in the grain and new lettering added to show off the new "P" at midcourt.

Following a sizeable donation, Portland honored Brewer with the naming of the court.

"It means everything to me to give back to Portland," Brewer said during his camp. "It's fun to come home. I love seeing the kids' faces, and to see some of the same kids every year get bigger is really cool. I just want to give back to Portland and get people interested in basketball. I want kids to start playing and I hope that something like this will help."

Though teams and cities may have changed over the course of Brewer's NBA career, one thing that remains the same is the love for the city and people of Portland.

"I love Portland," he said. "When I'm done playing I will definitely give a thought to moving back to Portland but I'll definitely have a house here."

A joyous kid by nature, Brewer fit right in as if the 6-foot-8 basketball prodigy had never left his hometown.

Former teachers, parents, friends and classmates reminisced of their days at Portland, and when it was time for Brewer to instill his knowledge of the game to the kids, he too, got right in the action.

"These kids are great," he said. "I love being able to interact with them and watch them grow as basketball players."
