Although we have four weeks behind us for our 2017 Summer Reading Program at the Portland Public Library, we still have two weeks crammed full of events.
Wednesday is our program day for children. The morning program is geared for the preschool-aged children and the afternoon program is more for the school-aged children. Wednesday, July 12 at 10:30 a.m. we will have the fire trucks from the Portland Fire Department visit us. Please bring your cameras to take pictures.
That afternoon at 3:30 p.m. we will host Dave Mitchell for his puppet, music and magic show. This was a very popular event last year. On Wednesday, July 19, Channel 4 Snow Bird will be in our community room making his yearly visit. At 3:30 p.m., Walden's Puddle, a local organization that rescues and rehabilitates wildlife will be bringing some of their animal ambassadors and talking about what they do.
A wish list of supplies from Walden's Puddle will be posted in the children's area along with a collection box. Please help us fill it. On July 26, we have movie day. Norm of the North will play at 10:30 p.m. and The Lego Movie will show at 3:30 p.m. Popcorn and water will be provided!
The Young Adults have great activities on Tuesday and Thursday at 4 p.m. Still to come is fun with sidewalk chalk, a Quidditch match complete with the young adults riding brooms, a service project at our local park and they will end with a Gotham party on July 20.
The adults should not feel left out, as their agenda includes a coupon class, Crafternoon - which includes you bringing your favorite crafts to work on, a Car Care Clinic, Bingo, crochet class, crochet and other needle art, tea time, book club with a guest speaker talking about her experiences on the Appalachian Trail, and a family friendly movie!
We also have great prizes for the kids and adults to win by simply reading every day. Please come by the library or call us at (615) 325-2279 for any questions. We have calendars available at our circulation desk that outlines every event we have. We hope to see you soon!!
